Filming performance

We felt that our music video needed to fit in with forms and conventions of real media products of More Than Conqueror's genre, so we thought we would include a band performance into the music video. We felt that our performance location needed to link with the lyrics of the song we had as well as the plot for our video. After searching for a place to film we finally discovered an empty storage unit in the Conway Mill on the Falls Road. After discovering this place and checking with the management if we would be able to use it, we immediately set out on arranging a date to film with More Than Conquerors, who were more than willing to appear int he video. So on the 20th March, my group and I went to the Conway Mill to set up and prepare the filming are for the band. Luckily we were able to use the run down furniture that was inside the storage unit to create the set, and effectively link it with the video's idea of home.

When More Than Conquerors arrived we helped them to set up their instruments and amps, and brief them on our filming schedule, and the certain shots we would need, as well as where we would be placing them. After several hours of filming we had successfully covered all of our shots on the list we had, as well as filming a few more shots just to create a wider variety to give us more a chance of finding the perfect shot.

Sunny with a chance of riot

Due to working in a group we decided that we would make a joint blogger to write up all of the ideas, locations, filming schedules etc. so that they were kept together instead of being dispersed between each person's separate blogs. The blog we used was: http://sunnywithachanceofrio-t.blogspot.co.uk

Due to editing take up a lot of time my group and I decided to make the conscious decision of splitting us into two. Half the group would focus on the editing of the music video, whilst the other half would deal with designing the digipack and writing up all of our progress on the blog. We would occasionally switch it around so that everyone equally contributed to each section of our coursework. We would all come together for filming, although there were certain occasions where certain members of the group couldn't film due to their jobs, however they never failed in making up for it in other areas at different times. We felt that splitting our group up was very effective and saved us a lot of time so that we weren't rushing to complete things last minute, therefore handing up amateur work.

Reaching Our Target Audience

To reach our democratic target audience my group and I made a facebook and twitter page so that we could interact and communicate with our target audience. By doing this we were able to get across our ideas and also take into account our target audience's opinions on said ideas. Our target audience was our peer group, and due to the current fad with facebook and twitter we felt that this was the perfect way to reach our target audience and get feedback from them.

Another way we reached our target audience was we asked a random sample of our year group to watch More Than Conqueror's previous music videos and then explained our ideas to them. After we did this we asked them to fill out a questionnaire for us answering what they thought of our idea, what their views on the song were, and if they liked that genre of music. Once we received all the questionnaires back we got an idea of just who exactly our target audience were and how we would be able to reach them effectively.

These are the joint prezis my group and I worked on. They are filled with all of our research into similar artists, music videos, video effects and video ideas we have:

Alt-J ∆ Breezeblocks

Alt-J's video for Breezeblocks has a similar theme to their video that we're hoping to capture in our video for More Than Conqueror's video:

We believe this video is very useful to help us as a template for our video, and we really like the reverse effect to the video as it creates an even darker undertone to the video. The lighting is dark and low key, and also keeps into the dark theme of the video. This video gave us a vivid idea of how we would be able to portray our ideas, as well as how we would be able to set up our scenes and film them. It is videos like this, and similar to this, that we were able to make a conscious decision on our music video idea.
